Why oud smells like smoke

Editorial still: why oud smells like smoke, rendered as gold points of light

The resin behind the world's most precious wood, and how we learned to work with it gently.

Oud forms when agarwood trees defend themselves against infection, producing a dark, fragrant resin over many years. Its smell is part smoke, part leather, part something you cannot name.

A little goes a long way

In Nocturne, oud makes up less than two percent of the formula. Any more and it would take over the room instead of furnishing it.

Sourcing with care

We work only with cultivated agarwood from audited plantations, so every bottle is traceable to the grove it came from.
